Elizabeth Vander Veer Shaak trained with Bill Salchow in New York, Jean Grunberger in Paris and Pierre Guillaume in Brussels. She began working at Primavera House of Violins, Philadelphia, in 1981, then Salchow’s, NYC. She started Bow Studio of Philadelphia in 1983. In 2003 she moved and changed the shop name to Mount Airy Violins & Bows in honor of the shop’s present neighborhood. Elizabeth has continued her craft development by attending the Oberlin Bowmakers Workshop for over ten years.
Samuel Payton trained with Christopher Germain. Completing a four year apprenticeship, he learned violin making and restoration from one of the world's leading experts. He began working for Mount Airy Violins & Bows in 2007, where he learned bowmaking from Elizabeth Shaak, and has developed many techniques for minimally invasive instrument repair.
